Cultivating Joy

On July 14-16, over 60 JCPS teachers and staff attended the 3rd Annual Compassionate Schools Project Summer Retreat for Educators in the scenic Rough River Dam State Resort Park in Kentucky. This year’s theme was Cultivating Joy.

Educators chose among group and self-guided sessions, with offerings including massage from Tip it Forward, morning and night owl yoga, beginner crochet, everyday joy through art, sensing and savoring, board games, gratitude practice, music and interactive theater with Playback Memphis, and Let Your Light Shine sessions led by Andrés Gonzáles, co-founder of The Holistic Life Foundation. There also was free time for educators to enjoy the park’s nature walk, lake, and swimming pool. One evening featured a campfire by the lake, complete with s’mores!

This year’s retreat was made possible by generous gifts from Karen Leshner and Intrepid Philanthropy Foundation and The Norton Family Foundation. The retreat provided a welcome opportunity for relaxation, connection, and joy before the start of the school year!
